On November 7, 2009 Colorado was hit by a powerful winter storm. A slow moving low pressure system brought warm, moist Gulf air north, where it encountered a cold front and developed into heavy precipitation. Snowfall along the Front Range exceeded 1" per hour and deposited two to three feet of snow across the metropolitan area.
Due to accumulating snow, trees and roofs started to give 24 hours into the storm. Structural failure of buildings and deep snow quickly overwhelmed the emergency response system. Emergency response personnel were stretched thin and CERT was activated to assist in the emergency. This is only a drill. |
